Suburban commuter traffic streams into Detroit beneath the I-75 / 8 Mile Road Bridge in my 1982 painting "The Gates of Detroit".

LIMITED EDITION PRINT AVAILABLE

  8 MILE ROAD

The building of Detroit's first expressways, starting in the early 50's, initiated a migration of Euro American Detroiters to the newly forming suburbs north of 8 Mile.

For both suburban  Detroiters and Detroit dwellers crossing eight mile is loaded with hidden meaning giving an otherwise forgettable roadway a special status in the hearts and minds of Detroiters.
