This spectacular and telling view was the original 1997 home page image for the Fabulous Ruins of Detroit website's Classic Tour.  The foreground remains the same with rusting overgrown rail lines that once carried rail commuters from the outer suburbs to downtown.  Different is the new GM sign which can be seen on the central tower of the Renaissance Center and a new parking lot that intervenes in the middle ground.  This area was once slated for casinos, but now sits in development limbo.
