Detroiters from the whole Detroit family of communities gather on May 4, 2002 for the Belle Isle HUG, a volunteer effort to clean up and paint up our jewel of the Detroit straits.  Along with a number of DetroitYES forumers, some seen here, I joined in to scrape and paint picnic tables.  We worked in sector 2, the area near the lighthouse end of the island.  In the background right is a refreshment stand that was refurbished two years ago, but did not survive economically and is currently abandoned.
