In the smaller upper ballroom a second stage pounds out the sound. Still a largely underground movement in Detroit, techno beat and its DJ's are honored and revered in Europe, much like the jazz musicians were in the twenties and thirties.

Squeezing through a mass of humanity in narrow darkened hallways, I emerged into the upper ballroom of the Eastown, a large space quite separate from the main theater.
