PLURkids hurry
to scrub out the lobby of the Eastown. Even decades of neglect
and peeling paint do not detract from the beauty of its design in
this view from the stairway leading to the mezzanine and balcony.
When I arrived,
on the afternoon of the party, the long dormant theater was a beehive
of activity. Originally the rave was planned for an old warehouse in
Hazel Park, but police nosiness made the venue impractical so, at the
last minute, Shane secured the Eastown.
Rental trucks loaded with sound and light equipment descended
on the ancient theater while a massive cleanup was underway.
