Centered in the block bounded by 2nd and 3rd, Forest and Hancock, the Dally block developed as a district of luxury homes and apartments starting in 1891. Originally the block was part of Lewis Cass' huge farm that stretched from the Detroit River to Grand Blvd. It was subdivided in 1866.

DALLY IN THE ALLEY

Incredibly, by 1968, the entire block was scheduled for demolition. Fortunately only one building, a lovely turreted three story structure was destroyed.  A grass roots movement formed the North Cass Community Union [NCCU] which successfully persuaded the City of Detroit to relent from its plans.
