DALLY IN THE ALLEY

Among the famous early citizens of this block was Horace Dodge who had a garage constructed near this old livery stable.  There he developed his soon-to-become- famous Dodge motor car at night while working for Henry Ford by day.  The Dodge garage was designated a Michigan Historical Site in 1982.

Scavengers, the bane of Detroit restoration, destroyed the garage in 1989.  Yet most of the bricks were saved. Using photographs, architectural plans have been drawn  which will allow the accurate reconstruction of the garage.   The NCCU has organized resources for this restoration.
