Ruin du Jour -- September 18, 2000

TRUMBULL AVENUE

I am off to the circus at the Trumbull Theater when a shaft of reflected light illuminated this 19th Century beauty. Some places can never be eyesores.

The interplay of art and the ruins gives Detroit an special aesthetic edge.  A lively and vibrant culture thrives, largely unknown and, like the ruins, often despised. To understand it you have to love art, have an open mind and  be bold.

And you have to know where to find it.
