Filling most of the block south Monroe, the dormant Greektown Casino has sat finished but unopened for several months while licensing issues were being sorted out.  In the end, its Greek American investors, who had taken the lead in getting casino gambling in Detroit, failed to meet the licensing standards and sold their interests to the Chippewa Indian tribe.  The casino opened in November 2000.

On the far left can be seen the Atheneum Hotel, created from the recycled Ferry Seed Company. To the right of the casino is 19th century school house of St. Mary's Roman Catholic church which is on the extreme right.
