Mike posted the following, "will the Book-Cadillac hotel building actually be renovated before the Statler? Looks that way...Now all they need to do is put apartments in the Madison hotel or re-renovate the hotel and the theater/sports district would just about be completed. this is truly a blessing to the city of Detroit and sys one thing...the city is really on its way back in full speed....DETROIT PRIDE BABY!!!"

CaseyC replied in another thread, "Before we all go popping the champagne corks, it could be a long Statler-kales-style wait before anything comes out of this book Cadillac story. Notwithstanding the ostensibly optimistic comments of Archer-in-law Beth Duncombe, many prospective developers and DDA/DEGC naysayers are positioning to argue for the tear down...no doubt citing to told arguments about the Book's rooms being too small, and short, for modern-day hotels. To that I say, go stay at an Ian Scrager hotel such as the Royalton, et al. in Manhattan or the Delano in south beach...those rooms are small as well. But besides that (and recognizing the fact that, well Toto, we're not in Manhattan anymore), if you're renovating the entire place, hey, knock down a few walls and make it bigger....hell, knock down some ceilings and increase the ceiling height...the world's your oyster with a building that size, only to be limited by the architectural imagination, as well as some financially deep pockets."

HEARD ON THE FORUM

I had to paste together two pictures to get this full shot of the queen of the Detroit hotel ruins, The Cadillac Hotel aka Book Cadillac. In front is the seemingly universally disliked red structures of
Washington Blvd.

See the Book Cadillac during its days as a Fabulous Ruin of Detroit.
