BYGONE
BELLE ISLE

Sadly neglected, the Peace Carillon is overgrown with weeds, its algae choked moat a repository for floating litter.  The hands and numbers of its clock have long ago disappeared, thanks to some thoughtless scavenger.

Perhaps it is symbolic of our long peace as neighbor that we so blithely take for granted. It is so ironic, I mused as I took these pictures, in a time when soldiers of both our countries are on overseas battle stations trying to  contain the atrocities by neighboring countries in the Balkans.
