Once a premier hotel of downtown Detroit, the Fort Shelby has been abandoned and slowly decaying since 1974.  Plans are now set for the $82 million rehabilitation project that will create 204 luxury hotel suites and 38,000 square feet of conference/meeting space, plus a bar and restaurant, topped by 63 luxury apartments.
