I'm having fun. In spite of my computer crashing for a couple of days, I'm ready to get back in the ring with Crips. Or is it the Bloods? Well, it's my initiation whooping, so it ain't gonna be easy.

Hey Hoov, it's smaller than you think. There are already mirrors in it making it look larger. I was thinking of calling it the 'Closet Bar'.

Hey don't drag me into this thing! I always love talking to the Hoov but we have not talked in a while. To be honest, Skipper's bar is a good sized bar. Ha ha, I don't think it needs mirrors. He did an amazing job of cleaning the place from roof to basement. The place sparkles.
Don't worry Rick, I think The Hoov has finally decided to just have some fun with all of this. I hope so.

Spelling Hoov. Punctuation Hoov. I don't think Greynoodle's too worried, you've been blaming everyone. Now we're all to blame for having a reunion and not calling it the Mark Hoover GarWood Reunion, starring Mark Hoover, with guest Wannabees and a cast of dozens of other Wannabees and Hanger's On. Sorry we rained on your party, Hoov.

Hey Hoov, it was lead singer, drummer, guitarist, flutist, violinist and oboist. I almost forgot bassoonist and jester. Man, my bandmates sure kept me busy.

Considering your plea for sympathy for all of your disabilities, I apologize for pointing out your lack of edumacation and loss of brain cells. Of course, we can all relate to the loss of brain cells. It seems to have been a common occurrence during the 60's and 70's. Ouch! Signed, yours truly, Mister (to you) Bar Owner.

I got a chickadee on the deck rail says he can take Rocky easy. He wants payment in sunflower seed. He is not interested in inviting Homeboy to the match.

When you get your squabbles worked out, this here interloper has a question.

Way back in the early 70's, I hung out some at a bar on the edge of WSU. We drank many pitchers of ale and listened to a raucous mostly-bluegrass band. They were funny and irreverent. Their funniest material was usually attributed to the Holy Modal Rounders. My question is: Who were these guys?

Excuuuuuuuuse me, Mister Interloper, you might want to check out Goodfelloweb.com, The Tribes of The Cass Corridor. Every known survivor of the Corridor finds their way toThe Tribes at some time or other. Stephen Goodfellow, of The Tribes, and Lowell Boileau, of DetroitYes, are long time friends and collaborators. Something will come up. Good luck.

I see, a zen answer. Zen thank you very much.

I've been poking around but have no more points of reference than what I offered. I did find my way to the Tribes pages but couldn't make a mental connection to the music. I'll keep on looking, thanks!

I'm thinking Dennis Pruss of The Lords and many other bands back in the days on the Corridor, may have some answers for you. He was in at least a few country, bluegrass type bands. I'll try to point him to your inquiry.

Thanks for the kind greeting, Stone, I hope the mudslides don't make life too miserable in unsunny Cali.

I spent some wonderful time on the tribes pages. I'd love to get to know some of those folks and to listen to the stories from all of them.

I have mentally narrowed it down to 72-75 and realized it was Alvin's when I saw that fireplace. I think it was a regular gig for them, we went several times. We were obnoxious college kids, and from Haggerty High at that. Well, one of our group was a WSU student and lived down there.

On the bluegrass connection, I went to what was to be the first annual WDET bluegrass festival just before I left tor San Jose, which was in 1981. I may still have the shirt. Did it continue? Probably another question for Dennis.

Thanks all!

I emailed Dennis. No response as of yet. He was in a bunch of bands on the Corridor and has a huge photo collection which he used to display on his apartment wall when living on Antoinette just across the I-94 bridge from Alvin's. Alvin's was his oyster, so to speak. I gave him your posting moniker and the post number. Hopefully, he'll be able to provide additional information, if not the answers you're looking for. Now, I'm just as curious as you are.

Dennis just replied via email. He applied to DetroitYes for an account, but must wait to post. He'll be on board to contribute about music and art of the Cass Corridor. I'm surprised he hasn't been a contributor to DY long before this, considering his long history with the Corridor and Lowell Boileau. He speculated the band you saw was likely his - Okeefenokee. They were probably playing at Verne's (south side of Forest, just west of Woodward) which is long gone, or the Circa 1890's Saloon on Cass near Palmer, across from WSU, and still a Wayne State hang-out. I originally mentioned Dennis because I've seen his photos of his bands, particularly The Lords, but also his bands in their western clothes and cowboy hats.

There was band hereabouts for many years, by the name of Benny and The Jets. They may still be around. They had a bar they played at regularly, that I believe was owned by Benny of the Jets. They also had vans with their name on them and signs all around town, for many, many years. Benny was the son of a local rich guy. He's about our age, 60 - 65. I have to leave for the bar. Candy, if you have a chance, try Googling Benny and The Jets. If not, I'll do it when I come home in the morning. They were quite the interesting, local, eccentric band. You've been gone for many years, so it's not surprising you may not have heard of them.

have rough video of verne's performance-and several tapes i'm compiling into cd and a cd someone made from a recording they made on tape recorder-willing to share these with former fans-email me @ woooof@sbcglobal.net
