Default The Human Cost of the Gulf Oil Spill

If you've been following the news reports on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico you might not be fully aware of the impact that this disaster is having on the people of the Gulf Coast. But when you look past the news stories about BP's attempts to stop the leak you'll find that there is pain and suffering all along the coast, particularly among the fishermen who are now out of work, and most have had to go work for the very company that cost them their livelihoods. Sam Seder talks with investigative journalist Dahr Jamail who recently visited Louisiana to speak with the people who have been effected by this spill so that we can fully understand the human cost of this disaster.

    Default BP's OTHER Spill

As the media focuses on the BP oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico that continues to poison that body of water, they completely missed the story about another BP oil spill that occurred up North. Luckily, investigative journalist Greg Palast has been exposing the lies and activities of BP for the last 20 years, and he uncovered the story when the media failed, and he recently joined Mike Papantonio to talk about the many problems that he has uncovered about BP.

Default I never stoped at a BP to get gas ever after 2005.

    Alot of people forgot this...

On March 23, 2005, a fire and explosion occurred at BP's Texas City Refinery in Texas City, Texas, killing 15 workers and injuring more than 170 others. BP was charged with criminal violations of federal environmental laws and has been subject to lawsuits from the victim's families. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration slapped BP with a then-record fine for hundreds of safety violations, and subsequently imposed an even larger fine after claiming that BP had failed to implement safety improvements following the disaster.
The Texas City Refinery is the second-largest oil refinery in the state and the third-largest in the United States. BP acquired the Texas City refinery as part of its merger with Amoco in 1998. It had an input capacity of 437,000 barrels per day [[18,354,000 gallons or 69,477,448 litres) as of January 1, 2005.
The explosion occurred in an isomerization unit at the site resulting in the deaths and injuries. According to a report issued after the accident, actions taken or not taken led to overfilling the raffinate splitter with liquid, overheating of the liquid and the subsequent overpressurisation and pressure relief. Hydrocarbon flow to the blowdown drum and stack overwhelmed it, resulting in liquids carrying over out of the top of the stack, flowing down the stack, accumulating on the ground, causing a vapor cloud, which was ignited by a contractor's pickup truck when he repeatedly attempted to start the engine. The report identified numerous failings in equipment, risk management, staff management, working culture at the site, maintenance and inspection, and general health and safety assessments.

You can see tru their lies,,safety violations..Scum of the earth ...I hope they go bankrupt...

But after they pay what they owe. Bankruptcy might be a strategy to sidestep that debt.

The above came from Wikipedia's Texas City Refinery explosion article in case anyone wants to click the links.

Default Ed Schultz: Republicans Love When American Workers Suffer

Ed Schultz rips the GOP a new one for reveling in the fact that jobless numbers are rising and using this to their advantage to "fire Nancy Pelosi."

Default Attack of the Corporate Courts

When the Obama Administration issued an offshore drilling moratorium in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil spill the oil industry quickly filed suit to resume their operations. And thanks to their close ties with judges along the Gulf Coast they were able to overturn the administration's decision and continue polluting our waters. The two court decisions on the moratorium highlight the growing problem with our court system -- which is that more and more judges across the country are being bought up by corporations leaving plaintiffs with almost no chance of victory. Mike Papantonio talks about our corporate court system with Nan Aron, the president of the Alliance for Justice.

Ed Schultz is "Fired Up" about the prospect of having John Boehner as Speaker of the House if the Democrats lose in this year's midterm elections. Watch as he exposes the lies, insanity, and downright foolishness of John Boehner and the GOP.

Default Ed Schultz: Republicans Hate Public Education

Nancy Pelosi managed to get a Jobs Bill through Congress that will help save public education and thousands of teachers' jobs across the country. Ed Schultz is "Fired Up" over the GOP's assertion that this bill is only meant to serve "special interests" and by "special interests" I guess Boehner means children and teachers.

Default Ed Schultz: Robert Gibbs Drips Arrogance

Robert Gibbs says that he isn't sorry for his comments about the Democratic base needing to be drug tested. As Ed Schultz points out, these are the people who knocked on doors, worked campaign rallies, and donated money to get President Obama elected and Gibbs thinks that it is just fine to insult the Democratic base. Ed is "Fired Up" over these comments and offers his one-of-a-kind commentary on the subject.

    Default The U.S. War Addiction

When George Bush launched the Iraq War it was obvious to any observer that we were in that country because they had oil and our government wanted that oil. But this isn't the only time that our military has been used to help businesses take control of the natural resources of a country. In fact, it's happened a lot more than you might think. Mike Papantonio talks about our war addiction and how US corporations are helping to make these wars self-perpetuating, with David DeGraw, a founding member of the Amped Status blog.

Default Ed Schultz: Americans Being Displaced by Corporate Greed

Where are the jobs? This is the question that millions of Americans are asking today. Corporate profits are once again soaring but hiring remains at a near all-time low. Ed Schultz is fired up about the fact that Congress is doing very little to help average Americans who want to work but can't.

Default Ed Schultz: Dr. Laura is Nothing More Than a Racist

The right wing media is at it again - Laura Schlessinger used the n-word on her program last Friday, thinking nothing of it because African Americans use it. As Ed Schultz points out, Ingraham is nothing more than a racist who bullies her own callers.

Default Papantonio: Obama Must Show Strong Leadership on Mosque Issue

There are a lot of misconceptions floating around about the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque." For starters it is neither a Mosque nor is it located at Ground Zero. These are just a few of the points that Mike Papantonio brings up during his latest appearance on The O'Reilly Factor.

Default Papantonio: Mosques and Right Wing Crazies

The arguments against the inappropriately termed "Ground Zero Mosque" are getting very ridiculous. The right wing is now speculating that the money to fund the community center, which is not even at Ground Zero, will come from terrorist organizations. They have no basis for these claims but that doesn't prevent Fox News from airing them. Mike Papantonio appears on Fox Business's Money Rocks to try to counter some of the hate talk coming from the Right.

Default Papantonio: Alan Grayson is Pissed Off!

Earlier this year the Supreme Court made a disastrous ruling in the Citizens' United case that will allow corporations to funnel as much money into political campaigns as they want. Luckily there are still some members of Congress who are working to bring our democracy back to the people and not to corporate America. One of those people is Congressman Alan Grayson who co-sponsored the Shareholder Protection Act which will prevent companies from giving to political campaigns without the support of their shareholders and he recently spoke to Mike Papantonio about his efforts. Default Papantonio: Cenk and Pap Go After BP

The oil just won't go away. NOAA was forced to admit that they were wrong about 75% of the oil being gone from the Gulf and they now say that 75% is still in the Gulf. On top of that BP is attempting to settle claims quickly by forcing those in need of money to sign documents agreeing to not sue the oil giant. Mike Papantonio discusses all this and more on MSNBC's The Ed Show.

Default RFK, Jr.: Coal's Toxic Sludge

For the last 30 years the coal industry has been working closely with government regulatory agencies to keep the dangers of their toxic waste hidden from the American public. During the Bush administration the industry became so entwined with the EPA that it was almost impossible to distinguish the two and the industry was given everything it could ever want. The question we now have to answer is whether or not the Obama administration is going to stand up to Big Coal or will they continue to toe the line. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. discusses how the coal industry managed to completely capture the government with Jeff Goodell, a contributing editor to Rolling Stone magazine, and author of the new book "How to Cool the Planet: Geo Engineering and the Audacious Quest to Fix Earth's Climate."
