    When president Obama took office last year we were assured that we would finally have an open, transparent administration. But as time has ticked by we're beginning to see that this scenario might not happen. That's why whistleblower Bradley Manning recently leaked a military video showing US troops gunning down men, women, and children in Afghanistan. But instead of being treated like a brave whistleblower the mainstream media outlets have turned Manning into a criminal while making a hero out of the computer hacker who exposed him. Robert F.     BP has finally managed to successfully seal the oil well at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Over the next few days we'll find out if their new cap is working or not. At the same time the company is shopping around for buyers across the globe to help raise money to pay the thousands of claims they are facing from Gulf residents. Mike Papantonio appears on MSNBC's The Ed Show to talk about these issues as well as other late developments in the BP oil spill disaster.

    Is Hillary Clinton prepping the field for a possible 2012 challenge to President Obama? Republicans sure seem to think so. But the bigger question is whether or not she could be viable in the current political climate.     Default Why The Oil Spill is Worse Than it Looks


    We've been covering the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico since it began more than two and half months ago but it's difficult to really capture the sense of desperation and despair that the residents of the Gulf Coast are feeling right now. But last week prolific Canadian author Joseph Boyden traveled to the Gulf to see for himself what was happening on the oil-stained shores from Louisiana to Florida and he recently joined Mike Papantonio to talk about his recent article called "Why the Oil Spill is Even Worse Than it Looks."

    Republican Senator David Vitter made the claim on Fox News that President Obama is hoping that the oil spill story gets swept under the rug. And Vitter is no stranger to sweeping stories under the rug - Remember the DC Madam? Or how about the Canal Street Madam? If anyone is aiding BP right now it's Vitter. He is one of the top recipients of oil industry cash and has even said that taxpayers should pay for the oil spill cleanup.     When you look at what's happening in the Gulf of Mexico right now it's hard to imagine that the Obama administration would allow more drilling in our coastal waters. And yet that is exactly what they are doing in the Arctic where Ken Salazar has made it clear that he will help companies like Shell and even BP to attain leases to drill in shallow water. And if environmental scientists are correct this could lead to an even bigger disaster than the one unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico. Robert F.     A new report shows that workers aboard the Deepwater Horizon oil rig had been warning their superiors for weeks [[if not months) that the conditions of the equipment and safety procedures were in serious trouble. In spite of that BP told them to continue business as usual. This is part of a pattern of behavior exhibited by BP over the years and Mike Papantonio appears on The Ed Show on MSNBC to talk about BP's culture of corruption.

    When President Obama announced that Ken Feinberg would be heading up the $20 billion dollar fund set up by BP to pay out claims, most people along the coast believed that this would mean they wouldn't have to fight to make a claim. But as we're now seeing, that $20 billion fund was just a smoke screen and the man put in charge of it is actually being paid by BP.     With the Bush tax cuts set to expire the GOP is crying that these tax cuts are necessary to help the economy grow. If that were true then we wouldn't be in the economic mess that we're currently in.     Today marks the 100th day since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank into the Gulf of Mexico causing the worst environmental disaster this country has ever seen. The federal government has now announced that they will be launching a criminal probe into what happened on that rig and Mike Papantonio appears on MSNBC's The Ed Show to discuss what that might mean for the pending lawsuits against BP.

    Are taxpayers going to be footing the bill to clean up BP's mess in the Gulf of Mexico? It's certainly a possibility, and as Mike Papantonio explains on The Ed Schultz Show, BP is considering asking the government for a tax break to cover the cleanup costs.
