Rotterdam was also a city that had to re-invent itself after the shipbuilding industy went to Asia. But that city had one major advantage over Detroit, being itself the sea gateway to Europe.

A torrent of this program is now up at UKNova.com [[registration required).
I tried UKNova.com but it said they didnt have any room for new sign ups.
Anyone else have any luck finding this on a free torrent site?
It works, but at one download every 30 minutes, with five parts to download, means a long download period.
The whole show is on YouTube now, in 8 parts; here's part one:

Requiem for Detroit is on the top movies at http://www.movies-links.tv/
I just watched Requiem for Detroit on Youtube. I have to say that they did a good job, but only focused on the burnt out neighborhoods and the ghettos. I think we all agree that there are more than enough here. But what about all the new developments? What about the streets being cleaner now than anytime in the last 30-40 years? What about the friendly people saying hello when you walk down Woodward in Midtown? In my opinion, they really didn't present a accurate picture of the city. They showed one side, but not the other.
You can find all 8 parts on youtube for free, without changing any settings. I just watched it. Very skewed view of the city in my opinion. Only talked about the burnt out neighborhoods and ghettos. Didn't talk about any of the progress, the friendly people, and all the people who really care about what happens here. It did present truth, but only one side of it.
Here is a link to the torrent I uploaded it and will keep it up as long as possible.

I have had the whole thing for nearly two weeks.
Bring yer' Thumb Drives over.
My take on the film after watching it yesterday:

"If your vice is urban ruin porn, British director Julien Temple’s new BBC documentary Requiem for Detroit is your Caligula — the unrated, uncut version."
My take after watching the film last week:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, the humanity, etc..
Bshea, you hit it pretty well. It ended up as a 'through the glass darkly' POV. I have a positive outlook and am a pro-Detroit booster, but all my many comments and explanations in that regard ended up on the cutting floor. They even selectively clipped some of my comments and overlaid them on scenes where they were not spoken.
I've been in a enough interviews to know this can happen but it seems after viewing it that they had a POV established and clipped the interviews to fit it. One never knows where these are headed.
They requested an interview. I said okay and when I met them by main library they had a 72 Cadillac convertible, asked if I would drive them around, show them some stuff and answer questions. I drove them north around Highland Park to the Model T plant with side trips to Piquette Ave and other places and then back. I forget how badly those cars handled -- skinny steering that you have to start turning a half block before your turn.
It feels like there was a preconceived agenda, and Temple wasn't going to let anything as pesky as new investment and development stand in the way of his grand Detroit-as-Economic Beirut masterpiece. You can't indict American society and consumerism otherwise.Bshea, you hit it pretty well. It ended up as a 'through the glass darkly' POV. I like the part where they are about to crawl though a hole in the wall at the Packard, and you hear someone say "this is the only way in".
Anyone who has even been to the Packard should find that pretty funny.
But in general, Lowell, do you think your comments on Detroit have been used fair? Or were most of your comments taken out of context?
And is there also a torrent of the second documentary I mentioned? That one is also certainly worth watching!
just seen it and it was interesting
Finally!
Of course I've seen it on the Beeb and on internet but finally this magnificent documentary is going to make it's Dutch debut on television. [[Well, not entirely. It's going to be on the Belgian station Canvas but about 95% of Dutch connections can recieve it.)
Wednesday March 9. 23:15 PM on Canvas!
I found it online here: http://vidreel24.com/movie/Requiem-for-Detroit.html
It's an annoying site. Before starting the video, let at least two ads run their course, and then click the play button at the bottom left of the player, not the one in the middle, or you will only enjoy more ads. Also, you will want to close the pop-ups it opens up.
