Weeds cover the sand volley ball courts of the failed Atwater Beach Club.  On  land being acquired for the future construction of three riverfront casinos, the beach club along with the aged Globe Trading Building to the left are two of the many structures to be demolished. 

Rivertown

Detroit rolls the dice and hopes to hit the jackpot with the advent of casino gambling.

According to plans, this Rivertown area will house three giant hotel casino complexes by 2002.  In the meantime three temporary casinos are being built in the downtown area.

It later transpired that these properties were part of an elaborate shell game involving casino placement. Now there are no plans for casinos in this area and its future use remains in limbo.
